Pocket size · painted steel at home · set of six or twelve

A fridge magnet is a useful Orlando gift because the week itself is already too much object. Guests land at MCO, live out of a hotel, walk in heat, and fly home with more than they can wear. A plaque that packs in a pocket and then lives on kitchen steel is the souvenir that still works when the clothes are washed and the camera roll is closed.

You name the person and the kitchen. Painted steel or stainless. Apartment, house, or a hotel kitchenette that may not hold anything. Then Prefer email? Use our contact page.

A welcome on the hotel fridge

A frame and a clip wait for home. The welcome gift is one plaque that can sit on steel tonight.

The first gift is the one waiting when they arrive. Lake Buena Vista, Kissimmee, and International Drive hotels are where most park weeks begin. A small city plaque on a painted kitchenette door says: you were here, and this is the object that will still be here on Tuesday at home. Test the door with any cheap magnet first. Many hotel boxes are stainless that will not hold. If it slides, leave the gift in a wrapped sleeve on the counter, not on a gasket that has to seal.

Do not gift a wall. A hotel kitchenette door may be the size of a day bag. One city view, or one park-day icon, is the welcome. The clip that holds a ticket and the frame that holds a print belong in the suitcase for the kitchen they actually live in. Read the fridge-memory kit if the gift is that later door, not tonight’s mini-fridge.

If several people arrive together, one shared plaque plus a note on the back (names, year, neighborhood) is kinder than three of the same skyline. Orlando trips repeat. The door at home becomes a map of weeks only if each visit adds one piece.

A park week, and a send-off

Send-offOne trip magnet, dated, for the home fridge

The second gift is for the week they are already in. Someone walked five to eight miles, stood in humidity, and did not want another mug. A tin print or an enamel plaque is the midweek present that still fits in a pocket. Do not gift a glass disc for a park bag unless it has a case. Do not gift a letter-tile set as the park souvenir; that is a home-kitchen toy, and it lives in kids letters.

The third gift is the last-day object. They fly out of MCO with whatever still fits. The Transportation Security Administration lists magnets as allowed in carry-on bags and in checked bags (item page last updated April 17, 2017). The officer at the checkpoint has the final say. Ordinary fridge plaques are household objects. Wrap the face. Keep it out of the toiletry bag. Put it where they will find it when they unpack the kitchen.

Downtown send-offs look different from I-Drive send-offs. A dinner near Lake Eola is a civic plaque night: fountain, palms, a skyline that never needed a gate. A last breakfast on International Drive is a park-week send-off: one icon from the days they actually walked. Name the scene when you write.

Fridge space at home

The gift has to live on a door that already holds a school calendar, a takeout menu, and last year’s trip. Painted refrigerator steel usually holds a thin magnet. Stainless is mixed: ferritic stainless is generally magnetic; austenitic stainless (a family that includes the common Type 304) usually is not. Scientific American’s explainer on stainless magnetism is the clear public version of that split. GE Appliances recommends testing a door with a magnet if you want a bulletin fridge. If a thin plaque slides, try a side wall or a heavier enamel piece. Keep gifts off the gasket so the door still seals.

A French door in a Lake Nona apartment can take a small set: city view, kitchen row, one trip piece. A shallow downtown gallery fridge wants the group low, away from the handle. Leave a palm-width of empty steel for a list. A gift that covers the whole door is not a gift; it is a second kitchen.

If you are a local gifting a visitor, say so. A magnet from Orlando should feel chosen for this climate and this fridge. If you are gifting someone who could not come, civic Orlando is the honest subject: Lake Eola, a palm, a Florida outline. They do not need a park icon from a week they did not walk.
