- Will a magnet hold on my fridge?
- Painted refrigerator steel usually holds a thin magnet. Stainless is mixed: ferritic stainless is generally magnetic; austenitic stainless (a family that includes the common Type 304) usually is not. Scientific American's explainer on stainless magnetism is the clear public version of that split. GE Appliances recommends testing a door with a magnet if you are shopping for a fridge you want to use as a bulletin. - How do I pack a magnet for a park week?
- Wrap the face. Enamel chips on tile; tin print scuffs on a zipper. A T-shirt sleeve, a sock, or a notebook is enough. Keep the plaque out of the toiletry bag. - An enamel plaque is a metal blank with color sitting in cells outlined by metal. On a soft-enamel face the color sits slightly below the lines; on a hard-enamel face the color is filled and polished flush. A magnetic pad is attached to the back.
